A ball screw set has a long threaded shaft with ball bearings that can endure a lot of pressure and weight while reducing friction. A screw shaft, a rotating nut, and ball bearings between the nut and the thread of the screw make up the ball screw set.
Below are the ball screws' advantages:
Highly accurate grades indicate greater precise positioning. Ball screws are also famous for their accuracy. If a machine requires a screw with high accuracy, a ball screw is your best choice.
Highly efficient, needing less torque – resulting in a smaller motor. Ball screws are more efficient, boasting up to 90% efficiency. This means that ball screws can convert more of their rotary motion to linear motion more quickly than other types of screws.
Less friction – can operate at lower temperatures, reducing the friction as the nut moves along the shaft of the screw. This results in less wear to the device in addition to a longer lifespan.
Usable in rolled and ground forms.
Adjustable to increase/decrease preload.
Less often replaced.
Both the wear resistance and the axial rigidity of the ball screws have good performance, too.
Disadvantages of the Ball Screws:
Ball screws are prone to being back-driven. Ball screws can be back-driven at specific lead angles since they generate so little friction. One main drawback of ball screws is that due to their lack of friction, they tend to be back-driven easily. As such, a braking system needs to be installed along with the ball screw.
The cost is higher. Ball screws are more expensive, meaning not all manufacturers will use them. Meanwhile, some producers are trying to improve the quality and performance of their goods; they still want to use the ball screw.
Ball Screws Are Noisy. Ball screws create more noise during operation than other types of screws.
Ball Screws Need Greasing and Oiling Frequently. Ball screws need to be lubricated more frequently than other types of screws. You must be prepared to keep up with their maintenance frequently.
